Computing AS Level, Unit 6:
For the final unit (Unit 6) of my A2 Computing course, I undertook a project to design and develop a single-user online Address Book. I wrote the project in XHTML, CSS, PHP and SQL, using Notepad as my text-editor. The project also required the use of an online back-end database, for which I used MySQL. As the project developed, more and more options were decided upon. It eventually had the options to Add, Delete, Edit, Sort and Search entries, as well as the option to view entries by the first letter of their Surname. This very well written and easy-to-use project, along with an extensive write-up saw me achieve 98 per cent, an impressive 'A' grade. This was the second highest grade in my year, and one of only three 'A' grades.
Since then, I have adapted this project for multi-user use where each user has his/her personal address book. It has the added options to Sign Up, Login, Request a Forgotten Password. At the last count there were over 2,500 registered users, and an average user rating of around 4/5.

Work Experience:
April/May 1999: Two weeks work experience at Roade School Computing/I.T Department. Since this work experience placement, I have been learning many languages for programming on the web and for software design as well. Previously I have worked with Pascal, ASP, JavaScript, VBScript, PHP and Visual Basic (including VBA). I now continue to learn and program in XHTML, CSS, SQL, C, Java, JSP, XML and XSL, both curricular and extra-curricular, but I am also keen to extend my knowledge by learning other Internet programming languages, such as the Microsoft .NET Technologies, CGI/Perl and ColdFusion.
Extra Curricular Activities:
I take an avid interest in writing Internet applications, web and software design, as well as computer-generated art. During my time at Roade School I played in the senior basketball team, which involves high levels of teamwork and communication skills. I was also actively involved in the football, rugby, swimming and athletics tournaments.
Now at university, I am a great believer of the work hard, play hard attitude. While I am acheiving some of the highest grades on my course, I also find time to socialise and have a good time, as well as holding a steady part-time job.
Summary Statement:
I am a cheerful, confident and determined person with a positive outlook on life. A lot of this confidence came from my gap year, which I also feel has made me a more interesting and rounded person. During this year - between school and university - I travelled to Australia for 7 months. I was based in Sydney but also travelled down to the Snowy Mountains, up to the Central Coast and visited some friends in the country.
I aim high, and developed a keen interest in website and software design/development from my work experience placement back in 1999. Since then I have set up, developed and continued to work on a number of web sites, including a website for a local band, two company websites, and a website promoting my work. I have worked with a wide range of computing languages and software packages and am positive in making this personal interest my career.
Since I started learning programming for the web, I have always written my websites, web applications and software applications in raw code, using either Notepad or JPadPro. I do, however, also have experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Frontpage (Express), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Visual Basic, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, and Ulead Photo Express.
